Throughout this blog, I have quoted from the Bible and worship songs that have helped, guided and supported me through this time of infertility. This time of seeing everyone around me become parents, become mothers.
In this blog I want to quote from two other small influences on my life: Disney and the TV sitcom FRIENDS.
As the title suggests, I have taken inspiration from Alice in Wonderland and the Mad Hatters Unbirthday Song. As today, Sunday 14th March 2021, is Mothering Sunday in Great Britain, I would like to wish the following types of mothers 'A Happy Mothers Day' - mothers in heart, mothers who have longed for yet never been blessed, mothers who are the best auntie's to their nieces and nephews, mothers who have conceived but never carried, carried but never given birth, given birth but never taken home and who have taken home but only for a short time.
Today I wish you, all of you the best of all days. Just because you do not have a child does not mean you are not a mother at heart. And mother you will always be!
I've lost count of how many times a child in school has accidentally called me "Mum" they stutter and stumble and get all embarrassed, but I take it as a compliment as they trust me and see me as that caring trusted adult. I then long for the day my child call me the same.
Now let's talk about Monica in FRIENDS. I read this quote on a fans page on Facebook
And that is exactly how I feel too. I am a mother, without a baby! I have plenty of different children in my life who I can help to influence for good and be able to inspire them with my stories. I've got my friends children all varying ages from 6 years old to baby. I've got the children in the classes I work with and they make me laugh and inspire me everyday. Finally and most importantly there is family - cousins children and there are currently four children and young people who get to call me Auntie and I am truly grateful for each relationship my niece and three nephews. I inspire them and they inspire me daily too.
So to all those types of mothers I've described today I would love to wish you ...
"A Very Merry Unmother's Day: To Me, To You."
And let it be known that you are loved!
